- St George
- platted in the 1850’s slightly northeast of present day Auburn
- It was a few votes shy of becoming the county seat in 1858
- By 1882, the town was deserted and sited as farm ground
- Sheridan
- was founded in 1868 just west of St George.
- By 1876, Sheridan had a population of around 40.
- Sheridan was founded by AP Cogswell & OA Morgan along the stage line road that ran between Brownville & Beatrice
- The town was named after General Sheridan. There is no historical data that General Sheridan spent time in the town named after him.
- Sheridan is the location of the north business area.
- Carson – a town 2.5 miles south of Sheridan was attempted to start to service the Burlington & Missouri railroad. The railroad refused and the town was never built
- Calvert – when the railroad refused to help the town of Carson, the railroad built a depot just south of Sheridan.
- In 1881, the Lincoln Land Company purchased land & platted the town site of Calvert
- The town of Calvert was named after a railroad executive
- Calvert is the location of the south business area
- Calvert & Sheridan were combined to make the town of Auburn in 1882. The town grew quickly because of the railroads that converged here.
